Ten gifted contenders will compete for their own show on HGTV. Host and
Mentor David Bromstad gives the Designers their first challenge: to create a
vignette, or section of a room, that represents their personal style or brand.
To make their space really distinctive, each Designer will have the opportunity
to create their own original fabric and wallpaper. The challenge winner will
have an item from his or her space adapted for sale on the popular website One
King's Lane. Stress levels are high as the Designers race against time to
showcase their POV's, and prove that they deserve to be the next HGTV Star.
Genevieve Gorder and Vern Yip are joined on the Design Panel throughout the
season by fellow HGTV host Sabrina Soto. At Evaluation, the winner of the
challenge is declared, and the first Designer is sent home.

“The Sales Associates and Installer took a lot of time
to make sure that the product that I chose would be the best solution for
installation on my concrete slab home. I was pleasantly surprised that this
engineered wood product looks fantastic and is low maintenance.”
Dream Home Nirvana- Royal Mahogany Laminate
“I bought this flooring and had it installed in my new
condo in the living room and dining room. I had really wanted hardwood but due
to the fact that I was on a budget and my sub floors are concrete, I decided to
go with laminate. It came out beautifully. The color is rich and it feels like
wood under my feet.”
“Instant floor in one weekend!”
“I first used this product in 2006, to cover a bedroom, a bathroom and the laundry room floors. I loved its beauty, feel and durability so much that, 7 years later, when I renovated the kitchen and den, it was my first choice in flooring. The rest of my house has original hardwood flooring and the two products complement each other beautifully.”
Dream Home St. James African Mahogany Laminate
“This floor was recommended by a friend and my
contractor. The product is very durable and has a beautiful finish throughout
my home. The floor was installed in my entire home, including the kitchen. I
have had other laminate flooring in the past and this floor is highly superior
to the other brands. Overall, highly recommended.”
Morning Star Strand Carbonized Bamboo
“I never installed floors before, so I had a friend who
has help me get started then I finished the 1000 sq/ft job myself over the next
week. It's hard work! Overall we're very happy with the flooring…Unbox all the
boxes beforehand since there are slight variation in color (which we love).”

Scratches can happen with all wood flooring. Fortunately, good looking repairs can be made to most wood flooring products. Repairs should be made soon after discovery to protect against possible water damage. Ensure the repair products you select are compatible with clear water-base urethane finishes. Here are common steps for repairing hardwood or bamboo flooring!
First, what type of damage do you have? Is it a surface scratch, deep scratch or a gouge?
Surface scratches
Very light surface scratches are best treated using scratch covers, spray concealers, lotions, or color stain markers. These products will camouflage the scratch, not remove it.
When using any of these products, make sure the scratch is clean from dust and debris.
When using a color stain marker, shake it well to mix the stain and urethane. Next apply the stain liberally to the scratch. Use a clean rag to remove any excess stain before it dries to keep stain from discoloring adjacent wood. You may need several colors for concealing scratches in exotic species.
Deep scratches
Deep scratches are best repaired using wax color-fill sticks or light sanding and recoating.
Wax color-fill sticks are available from most home repair stores and can be used to fill nail holes and deep scratches. They will protect against moisture, can be buffed to a luster, and will not dry-out like ordinary putties. Simply rub it into a scratch and buff with a cotton rag.
For sanding and recoating a board:
1. Tape around the scratch with Blue Painters Tape to protect the floor.
2. Minor scratches can often be buffed away using a nylon pad or progressively finer sandpaper grits. Restrict your sanding to the scratched area, feathering only slightly into the surrounding surface in-line with the wood grain direction.
3. Dampen a soft cloth with mineral spirits and wipe off any wood and dust particles on the scratched area of the floor.
4. Allow to dry.
5. Select a finish compatible with your floor (water-base urethane). Follow the finish labeling instructions for application. Apply using a spray or from a can with a fine paintbrush.
6. Be careful not to overwork the finish or the area will look much different from the rest of the hardwood floor.
7. Allow to dry overnight.
Gouges
Gouges may be fixed using a combination of the above techniques. Depending on severity an individual board, replacement may be necessary.

For most people, dogs are more than pets; they’re family. That’s why when it comes to our furry friends, it’s important to make the best decisions. Be friendly to your best friend! Here are some interesting facts for pet owners everywhere from Pet Wellness (by MediaPlanet).
Hardwood flooring is pet friendly & Lumber Liquidators is too! When you select hardwood flooring from Lumber Liquidators, you’re choosing the ideal floor for you and your dog. Hardwood does not harbor fleas, mites and other pests that can harm your dog, cleaning hardwood is a breeze, and dogs love the cool feel of hardwood flooring.
No wood flooring brand or finish is truly "scratch proof," but in a blind Taber Testing by an independent laboratory our Bellawood came out on top with an extraordinary Taber Rating of over 2000! Taber Testing measures the abrasion resistance of protective floor finishes. In this test, flooring squares are secured to a turntable and weighted with sandpaper. The turntable is rotated, causing the sandpaper to wear against the finish. Each full revultion is counted as a Taber cycle. The number of rotations it takes the sandpaper to get through the finish becomes the ISP Taber Rating for that finish!
There are around 5 million dogs in the United States without a home. “Select a pet for the wrong reason—such as feeling sorry for them or thinking they are ‘cute’—results in about 10 percent of dogs being returned.”
There are nearly 70 million pet dogs and more than 74 million pet cats in the U.S. Many of them are healthy because of regular visits to the veterinarian, but many don’t go as often as they should. Conditions such as dental disease, heartworms, obesity and ear infections are preventable, but are rising in dogs and cats. Regular visits to the vet can enhance an animal’s health and helps prevent medical conditions.
“In 2012 alone we spent more than $53 billion on our pets. If the dollars were viewed as a single economy it would be the 54th largest country in the world.” Wow!
From lowering blood pressure to helping children with autism, recent studies show pets make us happier and are good for our health!
Rachel Ray talks about giving back:
“I think it is so important that people support their local shelters and help provide needy animals with a home. There are so many different types of adoptable animals, and we’ve seen firsthand through our partnership with the ASPCA and other organizations how suddenly these animals can bring joy to your life. Your local shelter should definitely be your first stop if you’re thinking about bringing an animal into your family. If you are not looking to bring a pet into your home, there are other ways to help, especially through volunteering. Check with your local shelter to find ways to donate your time to help meet their needs.”

Spring is in full bloom! Has your house caught up yet? Put away your winter coats, add some color, and bring a little life to your home with these six tips!
1. Replace your dirty carpet with new hardwood flooring! Liven up your home with floors that will transform any space and give you a fresh look for spring and summer. All of the dirt that has built up in your carpet over the winter (or several winters…) isn't going anywhere unless you rip out the carpet and upgrade. It's hard enough to deal with allergens outside. Don't let your gross carpet cause problems inside!
2. Add area rugs! Now that we're spending more time outside, shoes and paws can bring in dirt and trash that can damage a floor. Rugs will protect your floors and keep them looking like new so you can enjoy the season outside and inside your home. Not only can area rugs protect your floors, but you can add some extra color to brighten up your home, too! Get advice from HGTV's Flooring Guide: Choosing the Best Area Rug.
"Figuring out the right shape and size for an area rug can differ with each room in your home."
3. Bring flowers and plants inside! Fresh flowers can help bring the warm-weather happiness inside and beautify your home. "There's no better way to bring the spring inside than to fill rooms with vases of freshly cut flowers" (TLC).
4. Change up your paint. "Any decorating magazine will tell you that paint is the cheapest way to reinvent a room with big impact. Spring is a great time to do away with the beige palette and add some color. You don't even have to paint the entire room to achieve the desired effect. Pick the wall that hits your eye when you enter the room…" (TLC).
Check out HGTV Remodels’ "Psychology of Color" to figure out which color gives off what vibe.
5. Lighten up! When you enter your home, do you see coats and umbrellas? If you do, put the bulk by your entryway into storage. "Just seeing an empty coat rack when you walk in can make a big difference. If you have a side table near the door, add a vase with some fresh cut flowers so it's the first thing you see when you walk in" (TLC).
6. De-clutter! Cleaning up and organizing can really transform your home. Get prepared:

“I have had the Brazilian Koa installed in my living room and dining room for about 3 months - both look amazing. I have 4 children and a dog (Jack Russell) and so far the flooring has held up very nicely. There are some small scratches, which should be expected with any wood floor, however they just add to the character of the floor. All of the existing woodwork in my house is oak (floor/crown molding, windows, cabinets, fireplace, etc) and I was very concerned how wood flooring would look. The Brazilian Koa was PERFECT because it has so many colors that all of the existing woodwork and furniture blend together. I am very pleased with my purchase!”
“I had this floor professionally installed in dining room, living room, hallways and master bedroom. They did it all in two days with very little defected product. It is very beautiful and those who see it comment on how nice it looks. Warm tones that match nicely with the colors of furniture in the house...Makes are house look brand new. Would recommend this product for its beauty, but you must love lots color variation or you wouldn't like it. Can't wait to see how it changes as it darkens up.”
“Everything about my experience with this product and Lumber Liquidators was perfect! The wood was available and in stock for immediate pickup and there was a great supply of trim parts. If you have the proper tools to do the job and general construction ability the installation is very easy and enjoyable. I installed 400 square feet of this product in one weekend with help only from my wife and daughters. I used a nailer, mitre saw, table saw, undercut saw and jig saw to do this job. THE FLOOR IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!”
“We had about 1200 sq. ft. of the Brazilian Koa Select 3/4" x 3-1/4" installed in our entry, office, hallways, great room, kitchen and dining room, our home is an open floor plan. We love the rich color of the floor, at first is is real light, but within a few weeks you can see it change to a much richer deeper red/orange/brown tones. Everyone, including our installer says it looks real high end and expensive. I sell homes for a living and I have to say, that I have seen a ton of wood floors over the years and this is by far my favorite. The look is so unique and very high end, which is what we were going for. The installer said it was easy to work with and went together very well.”

“Bought this flooring 4 years ago and still loving it. It looks brand new just like the day we bought it. It's so durable and beautiful. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.”
“This is a top quality product and looks absolutely beautiful in the master bedroom. I'll be putting the same product in the second bedroom and the hallway as well. You can't go wrong with a 5 x 3/4 solid hardwood product and when it's Brazilian Cherry it truly takes it over the top.”
“This is HARD work, but worth it. I am happy that we chose the solid wood. The floor is beautiful. I've been waiting for this for a long time... something that we couldn't have afforded to have installed by someone else. Outstanding product.”
“The finish is super-hard. We've accidentally dropped things on it, and no dent, no scratch, finish undamaged! This characteristic means that it's very hard to drive nails into, so don't even think about installing it by hand! The color does change with exposure to light, but to my eye, to an EVEN MORE PLEASING color that improves by the month.”

“My brother installed this floor in his home 10 years ago, it was my dream floor finally came true. We watched the price and Lumber Liquidators had a fablous deal we couldn't pass up. After a long wait, we replaced the carpeting in our family room, kitchen, hallway and office. What a difference this floor makes and it's absolutely beautiful. You won't be disappointed. We choose to have this professionally installed by Lumber Liquidators (well worth the price to have installed professionally). You won't regret the decision to purchase.”
“We replaced the carpet in our living room, the hall and the three
bedrooms with the Brazilian
Koa. The
hardwoods give our house that undated look we were going for and makes
everything else look so much better too. Will never have carpet again.”
“We get nothing but "oooos" and "aahhhs" when people see the floor for the first time. It's been down for over a year and half now and has darkened to a rich orange/brown glow. Yes, it literally glows! Hardwood is great if you have allergy sufferers in the house--once it's clean, it's clean! Now, this is wood, so no matter how hard it is on the Jenka scale, it will scratch. We have two kids and 4 pugs and there are scratches, but it just adds to the overall character. We did our entire downstairs and the upstairs hallway with this. We were originally going to get Brazilian Cherry, but after seeing how pink it got on the floor of our LL showroom, we didn't like it, but then my wife saw the Tigerwood--and it was love at first sight! Best choice we ever made.”
“WE installed this floor in our great room to replace carpet. We love the richness and deep color. It was not as hard to install as we thought it would be. It was our first time installing hardwood floors. Easy to clean with a dust mop. Would recommend this floor if you want to have a floor that is rich and elegant.”

Multiple contractors told Rocky and Angie they were “nuts” for thinking their budget would allow them to install hardwood flooring in their Elizabethtown, PA home. They had a price to stick to and looked around before finding Bellawood Select Ash at Lumber Liquidators.
Before making a decision they used our Room Designer to get a better idea of how the floor would look with the green walls and white cabinets in their kitchen!
“Our main issue was price,” Angie says. By using Lumber Liquidators, they were able to double the square footage of their order and do the kitchen and living room; something Rocky says would not have been possible elsewhere! Angie and Rocky chose Bellawood because of the 100 year warranty and the online reviews, an easy way to see what real customers think of Select Ash in their homes.
Angie says, “It’s really been super easy to clean. I actually don’t have to clean it as much as I had to do my vinyl floor. Even if something sticky gets on I don’t feel it as much.”
The couple says the durability of the floor is even better than the vinyl they previously had in the kitchen. Two children, dropped utensils, sticky food and spills are not a problem with Bellawood Select Ash. No more running for the steam cleaner or jumping on towels to clean up spills!
“We love our house, we take pride in our house, and we’re gonna be here for the rest of our lives, so it’s like, you know what if we’re gonna do it, let’s either do it right or let’s wait. And because of the price we got at Lumber Liquidators it’s like, we can do it right and we’ll never have to worry about flooring again.”

What are customers saying about it?
“flooring was easy to install with very little waste. i am ordering more for my other bedroom.”
“We bought this floor for our entry hall and dining room and
loved it so much we also put it in our living room and bedroom hallways. (I say
'we', but it was really just me. My husband kept the kids away while I worked.
Teamwork.)
It is SUPER easy to install. No, really, a
beginner could do it. Super easy! The
only real tool you need is a jigsaw and you are good to go. Just make sure your subfloors are level
before starting or you'll get hollow sounds when you walk on those spots.”
“We installed this flooring in our living room four months ago and it looks absolutely beautiful. I waited a few months to review because I wanted to see how it held up and how much effort it is to keep the flooring looking good. The flooring has not scratched at all, however, we do not have pets or young children. I vaccuum regularly with a Shark handheld vaccuum cleaner that does not have a beater bar and once a week I use the Bellawood cleaner. The floors look exactly the same as day one. I am very happy with this purchase.”
“This product was easy to install with barely any waste. My
husband and I did it ourselves. The color is absolutely beautiful. We love the
wide plank and the distressed look!”
“I previously installed Richmond Plank in our living room, foyer, & dining room. We decided to take it into 2 spare bedrooms as the adjacent hallway had this flooring too. We love the way it looks, and it is very easy to maintain. Both bedrooms look fantastic. The living room and foyer were installed in Summer 2008, and it looks as good as the day I installed it. Excellent product.”
